Get the facts on Family Responsibilities Discrimination (FRD)

Families Responsibilities Discrimination (FRD) is workplace discrimination based on workers’ care giving responsibilities. While a patchwork of federal employment law, state leave and anti-discrimination laws provide some protection, there is no state legislation in North Carolina specifically addressing discrimination against caregivers.

Protection from Discrimination, including Family Responsibilities Discrimination, is a civil right.
  • Protection from discrimination is a civil right, and workers need to know that they will be able to work without being subjected to negative employment outcomes based on their caregiving responsibilities.

Family Responsibilities Discrimination is a growing problem.

  • In many workplaces, discrimination against workers who have family responsibilities is open and blatant, and overall,FRD has been recognized as a growing problem.
